What are the units of voltage, current, and resistance?
Voltage is measured in Volts (V). Current is measured in Amperes or Amps (A). Resistance is measured in Ohms (Ω). Power in Watts (W) = V × I = I²R = V²/R. A common analogy is water flow: voltage is water pressure, current is flow rate, resistance is pipe diameter.
Does Ohm's Law apply to all electrical components?
Ohm's Law applies to 'ohmic' (linear) components like resistors. It does not strictly apply to non-ohmic components like diodes, transistors, light bulbs (whose resistance changes with temperature), and most semiconductor devices. For AC circuits, impedance (Z) replaces resistance, incorporating reactance from capacitors and inductors.
How do I calculate resistance of resistors in series and parallel?
For resistors in series: total resistance = R₁ + R₂ + R₃ (they add). For resistors in parallel: 1/R_total = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂ + 1/R₃ (reciprocals add). Two equal resistors in parallel have half the resistance of one. Series adds, parallel reduces.
