- Volume – A measure of the three-dimensional space occupied by a substance, expressed in cubic units. The litre (L) is the standard unit for liquid volume, while the cubic metre (m³) is the SI derived unit.
- Litre (L) – A metric unit of volume defined as exactly 1 cubic decimetre (dm³) or 0.001 cubic metres. One litre of water at 4 °C has a mass of approximately 1 kilogram.
- Millilitre (mL) – One-thousandth of a litre, equal to 1 cubic centimetre (cm³). Millilitres are the standard unit for measuring liquid medication doses, cooking ingredients, and small laboratory volumes.
- US gallon (gal) – A unit of volume in the US customary system equal to 3.78541 L. The US gallon is used for fuel, milk, and other liquid commodities in the United States.
- Imperial gallon (gal) – A unit of volume in the imperial system equal to 4.54609 L, used in the United Kingdom, Canada, and some Caribbean countries. It is approximately 20 per cent larger than the US gallon.
- Cubic metre (m³) – The SI derived unit of volume, defined as the volume of a cube with sides one metre in length. One cubic metre equals 1,000 litres and is used for large volumes in engineering and industry.
- Cubic foot (ft³) – A unit of volume in the imperial and US customary systems equal to the volume of a cube measuring one foot on each side. One cubic foot equals approximately 28.317 litres.
- Fluid ounce (fl oz) – A unit of volume in both US customary and imperial systems, with different values in each. The US fluid ounce equals 29.574 mL, while the imperial fluid ounce equals 28.413 mL.
- Cup – A cooking volume measure that varies by country: the US cup is 236.588 mL, the metric cup is 250 mL, and the imperial cup is 284 mL. This variation is a common source of recipe errors.
- Meniscus – The curved upper surface of a liquid in a graduated cylinder or measuring container, caused by surface tension. Reading volume measurements at the bottom of the meniscus is standard practice in laboratory work.
