Measure the rise and run for a pitch reading
From the attic, hold a level against a rafter, mark 12 inches horizontally, and measure the vertical gap to the rafter. Enter the rise and the run in matching units – the ratio is what matters, so feet or inches both work.
Or size a rafter from span and pitch
Enter the full building span and pick the X-in-12 pitch from the dropdown. Add the horizontal overhang if you want the rafter including the eave tail; leave it blank for the plate-to-ridge length only.
Or estimate shingles from the footprint

Read the pitch family of results
Every mode reports the values that describe the same triangle: the X-in-12 ratio, the angle in degrees, and the multiplier. The pitch mode adds slope percent and the rafter length per foot of run.

Apply the materials chain to the order
Take the squares and bundle count from the materials mode, confirm the coverage printed on the actual shingle bundle, and round the final order up to whole bundles – never down.
